Wills

The most important document you will sign.

Most people think your spouse or civil partner automatically inherits all of your estate after you die. This is not always true. If you have not made a valid Will the State will decide where your assets go which may not be where or to whom you intend. Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death. Many people put off making a Will as no-one wants to think about dying, but leaving it too late can have a major impact on your family and loved ones. It is also important that you update your Will especially when circumstances change such as marriage, divorce, births etc. Writing a Will gives you peace of mind that your wishes will be followed and your loved ones will be catered for at a difficult and trying time. Salmon Will Writers is committed to providing a high level of service in a friendly and approachable manner whilst working to a strict code of conduct.

LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY

Who looks after your affairs if you are not able to?

Losing mental capacity can happen at any point in your life, through sickness or an accident. A Lasting Power of Attorney lets you choose who can make decisions for you about your finances, your health and your care — if a day ever comes when you can't make them yourself. It allows someone else to access bank accounts, make payments and keep the family running. A Power of Attorney allows someone you know and trust to speak and act on your behalf, when you can no longer do so.

Property & Financial Power of Attorney

Lets the people you trust pay bills, manage bank accounts, deal with your home and run your financial life if you can't. They do not own any of your estate, they simply manage it on your behalf.

  • Bank accounts, bills and benefits
  • Buying, selling or renting property
  • Can seek Pensions, investments and tax advice
  • Day-to-day money on your behalf

Health & Welfare Power of Attorney

Lets the people you trust make decisions about your care, where you live, your day to day choices suct as diet and daily routine, and your medical treatment. This only comes into effect if you lose capacity.

  • Where you live and who cares for you
  • Day-to-day care and routine
  • Medical treatment decisions
  • Life-sustaining treatment choices (optional)

Trusts

Considered structures that protect the people you love.

Trusts aren't for everyone — but used thoughtfully, they can protect a second family, look after a vulnerable beneficiary, or hold assets safely until the right time. Trusts allow individuals to benefit from assets without taking legal ownership, and Trustees have day to day control over the asset. We only recommend a trust where it genuinely helps.

Life Interest Trusts

Protect a share of your home or assets for children from a previous relationship, while still providing for a surviving spouse or partner.

Discretionary Trusts

Give trustees flexibility to support beneficiaries as their lives change — useful for vulnerable family members or longer-term planning.

Bereaved Young Person's Trusts

Hold assets safely until children or grandchildren reach an age where it makes sense for them to receive their inheritance outright.

Asset Protection Trusts

Considered structures to help protect family wealth from future risks — set up properly, with realistic expectations and clear advice.

Inheritance Tax Planning

Keep more of what you've built in the family.

Thoughtful planning — gifts, allowances, trusts and spousal exemptions — can make a real difference to what passes on. We work alongside Salmon Financial Solutions so your Will, pensions and wider plan tell the same story.

No jargon, no scaremongering, no off-the-shelf schemes — just a clear view of where you stand and the sensible options to mitigate any potential inheritance tax bill.
